IDiS – The national community for SMART standards

IDiS promotes the development and gradual establishment of SMART standards, the standards of the future.

With a mandate from DIN and DKE, IDiS promotes and accelerates the development of the SMART standard and its gradual establishment. IDiS thus creates substantial added value for the future work of standards users, industry, SMEs and the standardization community.

To maintain the competitiveness of our industry and of standardization, standards also need to be digitized. SMART standards are needed, and so is IDiS.

Through its work areas …

  • IDiS works toward a common understanding of the vision and methodology of a SMART standards system both within and outside of IDiS;
  • IDiS specifies initial national pilot projects to demonstrate the benefits of SMART standards, gather experience, and open up further fields of application;
  • international activities on the topic of SMART standards are mirrored both external and internal activities are coordinated;
  • IDiS regularly provides information on the latest trends and developments in the field of digital technologies.

Broad support for the initiative

IDiS sees itself as a community dedicated to reaching the right stakeholders. To accomplish this and to elaborate the common understanding as well as the benefit to be gained from SMART Standards and the associated digital transformation of standardization, concepts and deliverables have already been developed within the network. IDiS has successfully been launched with numerous institutions being involved, and participation continues to grow.

It is worth noting that companies make up two-thirds of the IDiS community, underlining the relevance of SMART Standards for industry.

IDiS co-operates with

In collaboration with the working group “Technologie- und Anwendungsszenarien” (Technology and application scenarios) of the “Industrie 4.0” platform, application scenarios are being developed that describe the benefits to industrial engineering of standards created and made available in digital form and their use in production systems and value chains using 4IR mechanisms.
