IDiS ‒ A Driving Force in Digital Standardization

IDIS
DIN DKE

The digital transformation causes the volume of data, devices, and interfaces to increase rapidly — and, at the same time, we expect them to interact seamlessly and securely. To maintain our industry’s competitive strength, standards also have to be digitized and embedded as integral elements of the data economy. IDiS sees its role here as a link between the development of standards and their digital application and, thus, not as a new rule-maker.

The common goal: to promote the development of a digital standard (i.e. a SMART standard) that provides all relevant information for people and machines in the appropriate form, whenever and wherever it is needed. With a mandate from DIN and DKE, IDiS promotes and accelerates the development and application of SMART standards in Germany as well as their gradual establishment.

SMART standards: Benefits of digital transformation

SMART standards are at the center of digital standardization; they are the key to applying knowledge from standardization in a digital context.

Some of the benefits of SMART standards include:

  • time savings in the implementation of standards;
  • building trust in the digital exchange between stakeholders;
  • easy identification of all requirements for products or services.
